Hi

I am hoping this is an easy problem, I have had your wonderful program for sometime now and it worked without issue until 2 updates ago my problem is that from the folder monitor <tab> the search function for the TVDB code returns nothing "always 0 Found shows".

So far i have back dated 2 versions of Tv rename only to find none seem to be working even the version that worked prior to the update.I have uninstalled .NET framework 1.1,2,3 and .NET 3.5 and reinstalled only .NET 1.1, and .NET 2.0 as i was having issues with other applications, this seemed to have fixed other problems but not the search TVdb code in TV Rename.

I have tried to create a bug report but all i get is:
From: <>
Subject: TVRename bug report

TVRename version: 2.1.0
Experimental stuff: Off

==== Brief Description ====

==== Description ====

==== Frequency ====

==== Notes and Comments ====

==== Settings Files ====

---- TVRenameSettings.xml

Error reading TVRenameSettings.xml

==== Finding & Organising Directory Scan ====

==== Media Folders Directory Scan ====

One last thing is that the TVRenameSettings.xml does not exist in directory C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Application Data\TVRename\TVRename\2.1\TVRenameSettings.xml

TVRenameSettings.xml does not exist and I am unsure if this is a part of the problem or not, any ideas would save me from going mad.
It's probably worth mentioning I use windows XP SP2 I have disabled Comodo firewall,peer guardian and avast when searching. It doesn't appear to be blocked locally when i use the Visit TVDB button this sends me to the correct page.

Thanks

Sounds like you've tried a good number of things. Its not a problem I've ever encountered before. What sort of problems were you having with your other .NET programs before reinstalling .NET? Peerguardian, Avast, etc. shouldn't have any adverse effects.

Does it manage to download the episode guides ok? i.e. when you click on a show in "My Shows", does stuff show up? If you haven't got any shows, add a new one with the code "80367".

What sort of things are you searching for? For example, if I put in "the" and hit "search", I get 111 results. Even if something is going wrong with the main settings XML file, it shouldn't stop searches working.

Can you open Internet Explorer, and go to [url=http://www.thetvdb.com/api/GetSeries.php?seriesname=prison&language=all]http://www.thetvdb.com/api/GetSeries.php?seriesname=prison&language=all That's the URL from a search that TVRename would do. You should see a bunch of XML come back.

Can you download this version. Go to the bug report screen, turn off all three checkboxes, and hit "Create". What does it say for "UserAppDataPath is ...." ? That's where TVRename is wanting to save its settings files. For the directory it reports, what files are in there? (there should be TVRenameSettings.xml, TheTVDB.xml, Layout.xml, and Statistics.xml)

Is your computer connected to any VPNs, or have any other 'interesting' network setups? If so, can you disconnect from them and then try the search, etc.

Let me know how you go with the above, which will hopefully give me some clues as to what the problem is.

Thanks for the reply.

I have gotten a little further although the same problem still exists " 0 Found shows" after the new version the i now have the XML files you specified.

What sort of problems were you having with your other .NET programs before reinstalling .NET?

I use Media Companion (http://www.billyad2000.co.uk/) to scrap fan art season folders and banners, I use TV rename to name the TV files correctly. Before i reinstalled .NET frameworks the program crashed on every start up after removing .NET 3 and 3.5 it would not even begin now it works after reinstalling .NET 1.1 and 2.0 only. I only did this 1 week ago after TV Rename ceased working as well Media Companion work ok now.

Does it manage to download the episode guides ok? i.e. when you click on a show in "My Shows", does stuff show up? If you haven't got any shows, add a new one with the code "80367".

Unfortunately the same problem "Found 0 Shows".

Yes i Do return data.

This is were i have moved a little further the screen now reports the TVRenameSettings.xml, TheTVDB.xml, Layout.xml, and Statistics.xml are now contained in the folder

From: <>
Subject: TVRename bug report

TVRename version: 2.1.1a1
Experimental features: Off
UserAppDataPath is C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Application Data\TVRename\TVRename\2.1
EpGuidePath is C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\Local Settings\Temp\tvrenameepguide.html

the EpGuidePath if i start menu -->run this file returns blank.

Is your computer connected to any VPNs, or have any other 'interesting' network setups? If so, can you disconnect from them and then try the search, etc.

It is normally connected through a fortinet gateway, but for testing purposes i have it direct connected to the cable modem no unusual network now.

I have noticed something else from the Folder monitor <tab> I load say "battlestar galactica" and click the Visit TVDB <button> i am sent to the http://www.thetvdb.com page but the page is empty saying that "this series has no fanart please consider adding some". It is almost like the searched file name is not being sent from the search window.

Any ideas i have a bald spot from scratching my head.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for trying that. I'll put together a test program over the next couple of days, that'll test a few specific things and give some better status information.

Do you have another computer/laptop you can try running TVRename on? My current feeling is that its something weird with your computer, but not totally sure yet.

Well i have had some success "it works now" I have not come across a problem like this but the fix is really strange but it worked in fact i don't even really know why this would make difference.

I changed the windows credentials setting????

Right click on the Tv Rename shortcut from programs -->Tv Rename Properties --> Advanced <button> and un-tick the run with windows credentials!

It works perfectly?????????????????

If i turn the credentials back on Tv rename doesn't search for any files,If i hadn't seen it myself id think it was a joke fix but changing it 4 or 5 times back and forwards has the same result.

I have not got one clue why this would make any difference at all accept to say that the problem is a windows "my PC" problem just not sure what causes such a thing.

Any way thanks you very much for your help and keep developing this excellent software.

Kind Regards

Justin

Good to hear you figured out the fix.

Was that "windows credentials" thing on by default? Maybe having the wrong setting stops an application from accessing the network/internet.
