This may or may not be a bug but I cannot figure it out.

Law & Order: CI is set up with an Automatic Base Folder of
D:\My Documents\Video\TV\Law & Order CI - S09
The folder (D:\My Documents\Video\TV) is listed in Tools->Folder Monitor

I have a directory where all new files are downloaded to:
D:\Downloads\video
This folder is listed in Preferences->Search Folders

So I download new files, run TVRename (2.2.0b3) and normally it copies and renames files from the download folder to the appropriate TV Show base folder.

Until this file appeared in the Download directory:
law.and.order.criminal.intent.s09e04.hdtv.xvid-fqm.avi

Doing a scan, TV Rename failed to pick up this file and kept showing this episode as missing.

I manually copied this file to the show folder listed above and then ran TV Rename and did a scan, this time it found the file and offered to rename it to the proper format.

I have about 20+ different TV shows that follow the same setup and they have been processed correctly by TV Rename. Is this something I have setup incorrectly or is it a bug or what?

Thanks,
John

I haven't moved up to the 220 betas yet, but I can offer some information on your observations from my experience with using this application.

If a file is in one of the setup show folders (you moved it there manually) then the app assumes it is the right show and just looks for the season/episode numbers. This is why the rename worked.

The thing that struck me was the inconsistency in names.
  1. You say you set up "Law & Order: CI"
The show in THETVDB is called "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"
    The file name is "law.and.order.criminal.intent"[/list:u]
These are all different. If you have modified the database name to your shortened version, then TVRename does not know that CI = Criminal Intent. Not 100% sure if it automatically knows that "&" and "and" are the same thing either.

Ok I see what you are saying. But how do I deal with the fact that the download filename for this series can contain either 'CI' or 'Criminal Intent' - for instance:

Law.and.Order.CI.S08E10.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi
and
law.and.order.criminal.intent.s09e04.hdtv.xvid-fqm.avi

Is this where I would use the "Filename Replacement" section, changing "criminal intent" to "CI"?

You can change your base name, but that will exclude the other version unfortunately. Currently you have to rename your file manually so that it gets recognised. There is an improvement/enhancement request on the list for Steve (and anyone else with the programming skills) to implement an "Alternative Name" section for each show. You can follow what is going on over at the GoogleCode page and if you have programming skills you can get involved as well.

ScoopD's diagnosis is correct. The filename comparison, when looking for a missing episode in the search folders, doesn't take into account abbreviations. One option is to set a "Custom Name" for your show, that matches what you download them as. In the near future, I'll be making it so you can add a list of one or more "alternate names", for dealing with this situation.

The filename replacement is for substitutions in the name you are renaming files to, not for finding missing episodes.
