Subtitles handling?

Is there any subtitle handling in your app right now?
Let's say I have a file:
f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).avi
and
f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).en.sub
f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).de.txt
Stargate Atlantis\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).sub
All of above are subtitles (in different languages) to that movie. If I rename/move then using your app, I'll loose all the links to the subtitles (which must begin with the name of the avi).

Are you planning on adding any subtitle renaming/moving support?

Also I currently have flat file schema:
f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).avi
instead
f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\Season 2\Stargate Atlantis [2x01] The Siege - Part 3 (XviD asd).avi

That does not seem to work with your app, as I cannot specify directory per show; only per show per season. Is there anything easy for me to do to solve that problem?

Subtitle support is a good idea, and would be easy to do. Any files with the same "base" name as the avi file would get the same treatment. I'd just have to be careful to keep the '.en.' or '.de.' part. I'll put it on my to-do list, and it should happen within the next couple of weeks.

If you have all your seasons together in the same folder, add each of the seasons in the upper part of the "Shows and Folders" tab, and then for each season put the same folder in (i.e. "f:\MEDIA\Shows\Stargate Atlantis\"). When TVRename does its work, it should then just work on the files for each season, one at a time, from that folder. Anything that doesn't match the season its working on will just be ignored.

I've had a few other requests to re-do the way shows, seasons, and folders are specified, so I'll keep your way of arranging files in mind, and make it work with that "flat" structure as well.

Did you manage to get it working with your flat directory structure?

I'll have a look if I find any issues with the subtitles.
I finally gave up on maintaining the "flat structure", and decided to "fix" that manually by hand. It just seem too much of a hassle to add 5 seasons pointing to the same directory (and more place for errors).

I still get that "too long" directory structure error, which prevents me from using most of the "move/rename" options which I'd like to use.

Regarding the directory too long thing, try the latest version. I've added a couple of extra checks that might pick up when the extra long name is creeping in, and hopefully a better error report if it does happen. Give it a go and let me know what happens.

I'm going to re-do how shows/seasons/etc. are entered and managed. While doing that, I'll make it work with a flat directory structure. ETA on that is probably 1-2 months.

Happy to report that subtitles handling works very well for me.
One more request, maybe not many people will want it, but I have to do it all the time manually.
Basically lots of release groups include subtitles in *.txt format, which app recognizes without a problem.
But they are actually a *.sub files to be exact, and that's how various dshow filters require them to be named.
Therefore I manually rename *.txt to *.sub

So my request would be following, to include an option to rename all files with txt extension that begin with the avi name, to .sub
Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.avi
Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.txt should be: Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.sub
Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.ES.txt should be: Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.ES.sub
Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.EN.txt should be Supernatural - 3x16 - No Rest for the Wicked.EN.sub

Good to hear it works well. It only got a very limited test here, since I don't have any subtitles

I might be able to do the renaming thing, if I can open the .txt file and check it really is a .sub file (e.g. from the first few lines in the file or something.) We'd want to avoid renaming real text files to .sub, too. It'd be an option you'd turn on in the preferences, too. I'll put it on my to-do list, and have a think about it.

Any chance of getting a treat with enhanced subtitles handling (*.txt) in this version?

Turned out to be easier than I expected. In the next version I've added an option in the preferences, to rename "txt" to "sub" if the "copy/move files with same base name" option is also on. Next version should be uploaded in the next 5-6 hours.
