Match original name on scan

First off, I love this program. I've had it for about a month now and I don't know how I got by without it before!

There is one feature I'd like to request. I did read that you're busy and likely won't be adding many features in the next little while, but this is literally a "feature." Something which would enrich the program, in my opinion, but isn't a dealbreaker if it's missing.

I don't like "the" in show names. When I'm looking for "The Big Bang Theory" on my harddrive, I go to B. Sadly, it gets added with the T's. So I rename my shows and move the "The"'s to the end. As in "Big Bang Theory, The". Quite simple to do with TV Rename under "Custom Show Name", so thanks for including that. The problem is that the people who upload the torrents do not move the "The"'s to the end, so as a result, I have to manually connect the two when I do my regular scan.

If there was a checkbox somewhere in the "Edit Show" dialog for "Match Original Name When Scanning" that would tell TV Rename to find "The Big Bang Theory" when searching for new episodes but rename them to "Big Bang Theory, The" then the custom naming would be much more refined work exactly as one would expect.

Thanks again for the great program!

Good request - I have that problem with shows that have a year date in the name e.g. Doctor Who 2005 vs Doctor Who or Human Target 2010 vs Human Target.
As I do not have the old shows I use the custom names Doctor Who and Human Target, however this lead to the problem you have described.

I've played with this a bit myself and was wondering if anyone has had any success by changing the Filename Processor so that one of the regexes has a regular expression that Allows, but then ignores the leading "The "?
maybe a
[the ]?
at the beginning? With the phrase "The space" having a "0 or 1 of previous expression" question mark.

Anyone?

I was actually thinking it might even be easier to just have a "search for" entry, or even show-specific regex. That way you could rename your shows anything you wanted and not have to worry about matching things up. This would allow users to remove or add years to shows, as anotherkid described, or let you get creative with your use of filenames.
