Suggestion - TVRename sync

Hi,

I have been a long time fan of TVRename and I am looking foward to the new update!

One of the main features that I would love to see in TVRename is the following and I would find it extremely useful (as would my friends!)

The topic has been posted before:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=685

To sum it up from what sstteevvee posted:

"The idea is for the program to maintain an (online) list of everything you have, and then you give your ID to your friend(s). They tick what they want in your list, then your end tells you "copy the following XXX files totalling YYY GB to HDD/DVD" (maybe helping with that step, too, spanning across media.)

Then... When that'd done and working, it can be integrated that with TVRename, so TVRename can be told the IDs of your friends, check against their lists, and do a "request" on your behalf."

In addition to that you could also have a "request missing from IDxxx" so I can just click a button and my friends TVrename will receive a list of all the shows he has that I am missing, plug in an external HDD and click "copy" and it copy's all the missing episodes to the external HDD ready. (and eventually movies as well!)

I think this would be a great addition and if you require any testing/extra idea's let me know, I'm no programmer but i'll help were I can.

Cheers,
Azrelix

ive actually been thinking about something like that. write an application into google app engine or something that you can sync your library list with and compare with your friends. the technical side of it is fairly straight forward, the issue is the legal exposure side.

lets talk about the elephant in the room, most of the files in most of our collections are illegally obtained. do we really want to publish those lists onto a site that would be required to turn over those lists and your personal information if subpoenaed? sure we could do a TON of features and cool things with the information but i feel it would be napster all over again.

now one option that i have been kicking around is a peer to peer sharing. write a plugin that has some kind of bittorrent engine that would allow you and your friend to connect to each other and share your lists in a distributed system. doing it this way would have the added advantage of also being able to share your file over the same network. i think this would be a much safer way to accomplish the similar functionality, the trade off is its a much more complex system to implement. so for the time being i will slide that bar napkin under my keyboard again. unless another programmer wants to take up the challenge =-)

Hi all,

this feature really sounds nice!

How about not storing the series list online, but building an export/import feature. One could easily export the list as xml or cvs, send it by mail and the recipient could than import (or maybe opening and displaying would be sufficient) it in TVRename, tick the shows/episodes/movies he wants to have and send it back.

just my 2 cents...

robert

Hi TheEmperor,

Something like that would be really good to have, it would be a great workaround as well!

I'm not sure how hard this would be to implement though!

What about using Traktv or follow.it?
