im going to have the first steps of eliminating the xml files done by the end of the weekend. so far the data engine is integrated and running, its saving the configuration settings in the database and by the end of tonight should be saving the shows in the database. don't get excited, its not nearly ready for beta, but i would like some alpha testers. i will post a snapshot of what i have and the beginnings of an install program by sunday. if you would like to give it a shot and see what it looks like, PLEASE go for it. PM me if you have any questions.

While you are rewriting please allow most of the shows meta data to be put in xml .
on the rename part have it only rename in one directory with the incoming files are. Do not allow it to rename files when they have been moved to storage areas. But a check of the files in the storage areas to see if any need renames would be handy.
I have had trouble in past when the language would get messed up and tvrename would rename lots of files wrong or where it would mess up on files with short names and rename them to another show then move them to wrong place. This is why it should not rename in the archive areas.

Please keep in mind while doing drive scans some of us do not run raids. I have my system set up so each drive can power down and write caching is disabled also to prevent data loss from many types of system failure. This does cause a problem of drive spin-up delays and also usb + multiplexed sata drives causing delays. this is a must for my small residence to keep air-conditioning strain to a minimum. This also allows me to keep many drives running as needed with little power use. Disabling short file names and date updating on access to prevent unnecessary disk writes helps also.

I would be interested in Alpha testing and am aware of the nature of that style of testing. I am currently working as a software analyst and regularly document bugs/review code for work. Please PM me if you are interested
