is that a Vista "this program has crashed" error? (I'm not really familiar with Vista). TVRename is supposed to catch and nicely report errors, rather than it getting that far.

Can you send me a copy (either PM, or email to tvrename [at] tvrename.com) of your TVRenameSettings.xml file, and I'll have a look at it. In the past I have run TVRename on Vista Ultimate 64 without any problems (might have been SP1, though).

You could also try deleting (or temporarily renaming) the TheTVDB.xml file, then starting TVRename, to see if that helps.

File received, and it works OK here (XP Pro, SP3). There may be something going on with Vista, perhaps SP2 as well. I'll see if I can get Vista SP2 running here, to give it a try.

Given that you've got some shows set up in TVRename, does that mean it works OK until you quit TVRename and run it again?

Also, does it happen if you add just one show (e.g. Heroes).

backed up my data directory and cleared the cache. when it tried to get the show data it stopped working

deleted all the config files and added heroes
cleared thetvddb cache
when re downloading info for heroes there wasn't any problem

Sounds like it might be one particular show that's causing the problem.

I've just tried your settings file on a Vista machine, and I get the same problem. It downloads a few shows, but then it hits one which causes it to break - with the same error as you get.

Turns out that it's BSG (show id 73545) that is causing the problem. If you remove that from your list, it'll run ok. For some reason, it breaks on Vista but works fine on XP. I shall look into it today!

Solved it! Turns out that the Czech translation of the show's description had characters in it that shouldn't have been there. I've fixed it up, so (in about half an hour - theres a delay between changes on the website and data for external apps) you should be able to have BSG in your list without any problems.

I guess that Vista might have a slightly different version of the XML reader code than XP, so that's why it was breaking for you but not for me on XP.
