I am also having hte same problem...

When I try and access tvdb.com from a browser I get a 404... so I'd suggest its not a tvrename related problem

Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing. Not so much a problem with the application itself but of the location the data is being extracted from. I haven't run xbmc in a couple days, but I'm sure it's having issues too. Hopefully thetvdb comes back up soon.

same issue, unable to connect!... guessing TVDB changed something

I don't think they changed anything... Their whole site is down too. :)

I'm glad you posted, I thought I was going crazy.

I have the same problem. Since TVDB came back up tried adding several new series, everything looks fine but when I attempt a scan nothing happens. I see a brief flash of the status window but it doesn't seem to be checking whether folders exist or anything else. Haven't used TV Rename in 2-3 weeks but following same procedure as I have in past.

TVRenameSettings.xml is being populated with the information about the new show but TheTVDB.xml file is not being updated. Everything happens quickly, so does seem to be caused by time outs or problems contacting the TVDB.

Yes that is exactly the same symptom I am having and everything was working fine prior to the past weekend's problems with thetvdb.

I was hoping to spent some time today looking at the code to see if I could find anything but sadly I don't think I'm going to get time to do that.

It looks like the problem is a change with tvdb.com? When I add a new series TV Rename tries to access the two URLs below, the first works and contains the series information, the second fails with a 404 error but TV Rename doesn't seem to catch and report this.

/api/<API Key>/series/<TVDBid>/en.xml - Works
/api/<API Key>/series/<TVDBid>/all/en.zip - Fails with a 404

I assume that en is the language.

One thing I noticed was /api/<API Key>/series/<TVDBid>/all returns uncompressed episode information. Not sure if this means the zip files need rebuilt on the TVDB side or whether they now expect people to request the non-compressed data and work with that. Perhaps someone with prior experience of TVDB can commit? If I get a chance I'll try looking at the TVDB api documentation or the appropriate forums.

edit: Checked the TVDB API documentation and the TVDB forum. Seems they are rebuilding the data files/cache which sounds like it will correct this problem. Unfortunately this process may take a day or two to complete.

I think they had to take the site down again for a short period before they could start the rebuild. Checking this morning, one of the two shows that was failing yesterday for me now works, so seems just need to wait for rebuild to finish.

It's still hit and miss. Guess we're just going to have to wait this one out. :) It's hard to bitch about a free service.

It could have something to do with the DNS change of TheTVDB.com. Since they have a new webserver/provider they switched DNS. Refreshing your DNS / renewing your IP might solved the lookup problems.

If you read Steve's post or head over to the forums at TheTVDB you will see that they are currently rebuilding the files that programs such as TVRename download. So it may be that you have no problems because they have already rebuilt the files for all the shows in your database. Then again ...

As it happens I just checked this page which shows that the "Series Waiting for Update" is basically done now, so we should be all back to normal.

Anyone know of a possible fix for this? Everything was working fine for me yesterday but this morning TVRename is completely borked. It seems the TVDB is online, I can browse to the series that I'm trying to scan and everything looks fine there etc. I'm 99% confident that this isn't a DNS issue or other software/configuration on my end as well (besides clearing my caches etc., I've also kicked off a brand new clean VM, installed TVRename, tried to run it and same error).

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks.

I get a different error, but it seems to be related... "TheTVDB Languages: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found."

I am getting problems too. The episodes are listed on the TVDB website but when I scan I do not get the updates. Also when to watch is not updating with the new episodes
