Watched status

I use TVrename all the time, its awesome.
The only thing that makes it not 100% perfect for me is one missing feature, a status of which shows i've seen and which ones I haven't.

Idea: On the "My shows" tab, next to each episode it should have a little status icon of whether that episode is watched or unwatched (with the option to mark as watched or unwatched).
Also a tab called "Unwatched" which simply lists all unwatched shows

How it could be done: All episodes are marked as unwatched. When the file is launched from TVrename mark the episode to watched. Add another option to 'mark whole season as watched' when right clicking on a season.

Purpose: This would be so helpful for me (and many others) as it would make looking through TVrename so much easier. Also Great for when I run out of new TV shows and want something else to watch but not sure what I haven't seen yet.

Hi oldjollysanta,

I use tvrename to do as the name stats, to rename tv shows. I use the fantastic Media Portal to watch the TV shows, it has an excellent plugin called TVSeries that keeps track of what you have already watched. A very popular skin is StreamedMP which includes everything, look on the skins page. The best part is that it's all free.

I use next-episode.net to keep track of what I've watched, as it has that mark-off functionality you mentioned. It also is the best source I've found for news of the status of shows (canceled, renewed, etc). But it would be nice to incorporate that into TVrename.

@MrEMan Thanks for the suggestion, I admit the I too only started using TVrename for, well, renaming tv shows. But Now I use it for everything, I not only renames but sorts into folders, I use if to check shows status and also to keep track of when they come out, I also have my search engine hooked up to ezrss.it so TVrename also does all my tv searching for me 2.
All I'm saying is TVrename has became my whole media center, I love the program and feel its only a few steps from being a complete media center program.
@Mech_Man I too think it would be nice to incorporate this function into TVrename.
For now I think I'll just try media portal, but I'm a gom player junkie at heart so i'll be missing my favorite player :P
I see that that media portal plugin uses http://trakt.tv/ - would be awesome if TVrename could do the same

How do you set GOM player to play .mov files? KMplayer plays them so i amsure GOM can easily do it. I need you to show me how? Basically i would like to be able to play all video files inside GOM player.

Firstly, you would get faster and better responses if you posted a new question as a new message, and post it under the HELP topic area. (Many more would see your question.) But I'm pretty sure I know your problem, so to get you going the fastest: ----

I'm guessing your GOM doesn't work because you don't have a MOV codec installed. A codec is a translation file that helps your computer be able to read a specific media type. You could google MOV and codec and should find free downloadable files that should make your GOM be able to view MOV format files, but I strongly suggest a different solution.

You should look at the VLC Media Player. It's by-far the most popular open-source media player, mostly because it can play pretty much every media format you have ever heard of, all without needing any additional codecs. It has them all built in already.

Way to hijack my post =P
You can use gom player to play any media format... as long as you have the correct codec installed, 9 times out of 10 gom player will link you to the needed codec to install, for .mov files you should use the "Quicktime alternative codec". Then Gom player will will play the files correctly.

As for my original post, I am still hoping for the feature (especially now my media collection is getting large and this dry spell in TV shows has me scratching through old shows for something to watch.

I have started using XBMC with the plugin to trakt.tv/ which is nice, but having to play single shows from a whole media center is a little frustrating and a bit over board.

Still got fingers crossed for this feature, http://trakt.tv/api-docs offers the api needed to link to their online database... just wish i know enough to create my own plugin or edit the source code for TVRename.

I use XBMC to watch my shows, it has a nice 'watched' feature as well.

Yeah XBMC also uses trakt which I would like in TVRename, to me it makes more sense having the watched status in my tv database (aka TVRename) instead of my media player. That was I wouldn't need to refer to my player to see what I haven't seen or not. I wish i knew more about programming or someone who could do it for me :(
