How about an option to download series / season banners as 'folder.jpg's?
I use another piece of software to do this at the moment, but it's not ideal as it also downloads fanart, wide banners, and meta data that I do not need.

This is a great piece of software by the way. Thanx for all the effort you have clearly put into it.

That's already on my list, too. :)

Along with folder.jpg, I was also going to do support for fan art, banners, etc., so it works well with XMBC. I can easily make it optional how much (or little) of that extra stuff gets downloaded.

Sweet :) I use Mediaportal which doesn't need anything but the video file itself, but it's nice to ahve the folder.jpgs ther when I'm browsing in Windoze.

I second this feature :)
In the meantime would be nice if you could rightclick the TV banner and be able to save it as a jpeg instead of a bitmap.

Its strange that it wants to save it as a BMP, since it comes from the server as a JPG (right click on it and choose properties to see). Exactly the same thing happens for me here. For a workaround in the meantime: If you click on the show name in the episode browser (or a season name like "Season 1"), then view the season on thetvdb, you can right-click save-as JPG from there.

Usually all website content is in jpg, so i was a bit surprised. Already saved everything from thetvdb. Thanks for the tip though :)

I assume that other program you are using is tv metadata finder? :). Ive also been using it to download folder.jpg and other metadata for my shows. I began looking elsewhere due to it not being so great at renaming shows, recognising differnt naming formats etc.

Finally found this place after a few weeks of searching!

Anyways i agree folder.jpg would be a great addition if it gets implemented. The other metadata is also nice if you use mediabrowser through windows media center. If the developer ever wants to impelment it the metadata support for mediabrowser the tv metadatafinder program is also open source so might be able to get some hints from there.

I didn't want to mention the name of a 'competing' piece of software, but yes. (Is it really competing though if it's all open source? I dunno.) In fact your story sounds somewhat similar to mine. I found the other product nice, but not always accurate in picking the right show / episode. EG: it understood anything labelled CSI to be an episode of CSI Miami, rather than just plain old CSI. I much prefer TV Rename as it 'locks in' the correct series.

I've got no problem with people mentioning "competing" software.

I'm finally out of holiday mode, and thus just back to busy-at-work mode. Doing thumbnails and other pretty things is fairly high on my list, so at least rudimentary "folder.jpg" stuff should be coming soon.

Depending on how/what other packages do things, I can also look into writing data in a compatible format, e.g. XML for xbmc/xbmc companion.

XBMC compatibility is my no.1 feature really I mean right now the thing can do it, itself but its so damn slow and sometimes picks the wrong series which can be annoying. Would be a perfect combo really :).

I've just discovered the Media Library mode in XBMC (and got it working right), so it'll be the first new feature I do (apart from fixing a few bugs :( )
