Double Episodes

Hello,

Firstly this is my first post on these forums, woohoo! In case sstteevvee doesn't recognize my email address, i am the one with the Finding and organising problem a couple of releases ago :P

Okay My Feature request, which i do remember reading somewhere on the older website somewhere, is the recognition of double episodes. For example, this week's Las Vegas is a double, S05E18 & E19, however TVRename always wants to name it just as E18. There may be a way around this? But it is rather annoying as i cant 'exclude' certain entries from being renamed as far as i know (may be another feature idea?).

Anywho i am looking forward to your replies, btw i'm an avid PHP/MySQL programmer myself so sstteevvee send me a message if you would like/require/accept/appreciate any help with the site if you wanted :)

Hi! :) Double-episodes are definitely a problem at the moment. As I also watch Las Vegas, and I have the very same issue.

I need to think of a clever way of combining multiple episodes into one sensible filename. TVRename can be told that episodes "x to y" are combined into one file. At the moment it does that, but then makes a mess of the resulting name. I'm open to suggestions on what sort of "naming style" to use for the combined episode. AS a couple of examples, I have:

Las Vegas - S05E01 - A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwich
Las Vegas - S05E02 - Shrink Wrap

and

Las Vegas - S05E18- Three Weddings and a Funeral (1)
Las Vegas - S05E19- Three Weddings and a Funeral (2)

should these become something like:

Las Vegas - S05E01E02 - A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwich + Shrink Wrap
Las Vegas - S05E18E19 - Three Weddings and a Funeral (1) + Three Weddings and a Funeral (2)

..having a whole string of Exx parts together for each, and the episode titles separated by "+". or:

Las Vegas - S05E01 + S05E02 - A Hero Ain't Nothing But A Sandwich + Shrink Wrap
Las Vegas - S05E18 + S05E19 - Three Weddings and a Funeral (1) + Three Weddings and a Funeral (2)

..with each SxxEyy repeated. Is there any sort of "standard" that people use, or tends to show up in AVIs that you download?

The current workaround is to go to "Shows and Folders", edit the show, add a new rule, tell it to "merge" 18 through to 19, set the new name to be "S05E19 - Three Weddings and a Funeral". When it renames it, it'll add "Las Vegas - S05E18 - " before that, and end up with an OK looking filename.

I personally use:

Las Vegas - S05E18 & E19 - <Show Name(s)>

I am open to the '+' or even better 'S05E18E19'. However with show names (which this may get tricky) if for instance the latest episode of Las Vegas has the same name for both episodes, just a (1) and (2) after them, then why display the name twice?
I can understand it for the other example you gave though.

I didnt know about that nifty little work around, i will have to go for a bit of a cleanup now :) Finally get these double eps out of my renaming/missing tabs hehe.

It wouldn't be too hard to detect if it is "<something> (1)" and "<something> (2)", and just turn that into "<something> (1 & 2)", for the show name. That way (in the Las Vegas example), E01 and E02 would keep the two different names, but E18 and E19 would get a shorter one.

I just found a bug in that feature.. If the episodes you have merged are the most recent ones for the season so far, it'll not find them and/or notice them as missing/needing renamed, etc. So, if you're having trouble with getting the combined last two episodes of LV to work, thats why. :) I'll fix it in the next release of TVRename.

Give the latest version (b21) a go. I've spent some time on tidying up the adding/editing of rules, and automatic naming of combined episodes.

I've found this thread after I made a similar feature request :\
In my scheme, double episodes have following scheme:

Names in thetvdb.com (these are My Name Is Earl episodes)
14 I Won't Die With a Little Help from My Friends (1)
15 I Won't Die With a Little Help from My Friends (2)

Filename in the filesystem: My.Name.Is.Earl.S03E14E15.I Won't.Die.With.a.Little.Help.from.My.Friends.avi
I'm forced to name the file (at least the first part, "My.Name.Is.Earl.S03E14E15") like that because the XBMC-thetvdb.com-client then recognizes the files and displays them as two different episodes. (It plays the same file, no matter which episode you selected. At least all neatness freaks like me are happy because there is a consistent step between the episodes in XBMC :D)

The problem I'm seeing is that while the episodes aren't marked for rename (In the E01E02E03 format), they're still marked as "missing"...

Yeah, if they're marked as missing it means it can't find them, which also means that they won't be noticed for being renamed.

What's the show, and exact filename on disk of the file it's not seeing?

In this instance, "Battlestar Galactica - S01E01E02E03 - Saga of a Star World.avi", but it also happens the BG's Resistance episodes (10 episodes in one, E21...E30)

Even when using only two episode, (S01E01E02) it sees it as needing renaming (to only E02) and the missing check only see E02, as well.

Ok.. I'll have a look into it when I get a chance, hopefully within the next week.

I am having a problem with this specific one:

Stargate.Universe.S01E01-E02.Air.Parts.1.and.2.HDTV.XviD-FQM.avi

I would basically just like to have it renamed to:

Stargate Universe S01E01-E02 - Air I - Air II.avi

But the initial file is not being recognized.

You have to set up a rule under My Shows to combine them. Expand the show, click the season, then the edit button. On the Add/Modify rule screen, select Merge, then enter 1 in the From box and 2 in the To box. Then do a scan. If it doesn't get picked up, right click the episode in the missing list and select Browse For, select the file and it should get added to the rename list.
To get it to name it how you want make sure you have the template {ShowName} S{Season:2}E{Episode}[-E{Episode2}] - {EpisodeName} set in the Filename Template editor (It's the default so it should already be selected). If it doesn't give it the name you want, edit the merge rule you created and put the name you want in the New Name field.
