Seasons in different Locations

Hi Sstteevvee

Just got your software and I'm liking it so far especially for an alpha!

I was wondering are you planning to implement show seasons which can be stored in different locations? When I downloaded your previous version I noticed you could add each season seperately, (although it never actually worked as I downloaded when tv.com had broken tvrename), the new version just looks at a root folder and expects all seasons to be in there, which I think is much better but it is slightly less flexible.

The way I store my files, I keep my completed seasons on my server and the current ones on my PC which runs my torrent software, it would be useful to me (and perhaps others) to be able to tell tvrename that seasons x-y were in one place and z in another.

At the moment I'm running tvrename on both my server and PC which is OK but I'd prefer to run everything from one place.

Just a thought... and thanks for a great program

Steve I need to second this request. This was available in the old version. Please Please Please bring this back.

My new shows sit on the laptop for a few days , then archived over to media server.

If you can bring this to the alphas would be much appreciated. Thanks again for bringing us the data from tvdb. Much better stuff they do.

Keep up this work on this amazing app.

Allowing TWo and a Half Men / Season 6 to be found on both in multiple locations would be very convenient.

I use this app in conjunction with XBMC on multiple platforms . Its a great Utility.

I wondered if anyone else used that feature! I shall bring it back. :)

Cool, not just me then :)

Thanks Steve

Give the latest version a go.

Edit the show (not the individual season), and you can add specific folders for seasons. If you have multiple folders for a season, you can add them all.

This works in parallel with the "Automatically add new seasons" option, which adds folders for any new seasons numbered higher than the highest numbered season you already have a folder for. If it is turned on, the automatically added seasons will also show up in that list (after you do a rename/missing check).

Let me know how it goes, and if needs any further fine-tuning. Its tricky getting it work co-operatively with the automatic (hierarchical) season finder, and the folder monitor, so I won't be surprised if it has some weirdness hiding in it! :)

Hi Steve,

So far this feature's been working great for me. There's a little problem though with specials folders, the season entry box only accepts numbers as far as I can tell.

At the moment, TVRename generally ignores specials, unless they're numbered with a regular S03E05 episode number. Otherwise, it won't check for, or try to move them around. Because of that, the manually added folders for seasons only, meaning that they have to be a number, not "Special" or anything else.

For the shows I watch, there generally aren't that many specials. For the one that does, Mythbusters, I generally count them as episodes since the Mythbusters episode numbering is a big mess anyway :)

If there's a reasonable demand or need for it, I'll think about how to add it in - otherwise there a few other features I'd like prefer to concentrate on. (i.e. ones I want :P )

Yeah it's no big deal to me either, just thought I'd post up for the record in case it was an oversight. I'm sure there are far more valuable features you can be spending your time on.

Thanks for all your hard work, your program is really very good.

My 2 cents regarding Specials - Season 00 = Specials "season". I think this is how they are refenced in TheTVDB.

sstteevvee

Yeah. TheTVDB calls them season 0. If you're not merging specials into the normal seasons, you might be able to trick tvrename into working with them if you make a folder for your specials, manually add it by editing the show and adding a custom folder for season number 0. If you then name your specials S00E01, S00E02, 0x01, 0x02, etc., it might work.

If that did work, it'd be an accidental undocumented feature. You'd be counting on me being lazy and not checking that the season number was sensible and was 1 or greater - the odds of which are reasonably high. :P

Thanks to apathy I can confirm that this is in fact a feature. And unlike the "features" that my indirect employer MS provide, this one is actually pretty useful.

Hehe.. Cool. I think I'll be able to make it an official feature without too much work. I think that if I make it see "Special 3" in the filename equivalent to "S00E03", that would take care of the finding/renaming side of episodes, too.

I am interested in the Specials, and Season 0 idea. It does not seem to work as you mentioned. I created a "Season 0" folder, but the missing check still ignores it. I have several shows that use specials, such as Doctor Who 2005.

Would it be hard to have it work with Season 0, and specials?

Thanks again.

In my environment, the special folder is detected correctly. You could check if the enumeration is correct. If you had Season 01, Season 02 etc, the special folder has to be Season 00. I've helped my self often by clicking on "open" to see if TvRename detects the folder correctly.

Edit: What a crap! After updating to the latest build, I also have the problem that the specials folder is ignored!

Sorry about that.. I didn't intentionally break it! I'll officially add support for a "specials" folder soon - rather than having to trick it into working, by using a "Season 0" folder.

Can you add the option to allow for the original thtvdb notation as well? The reason being that xbmc, which I use for playback and library functions, also scrapes from thetvdb and it recognises the Season0\S00E01 notation and inserts them correctly into the play order, if I rename everything to Specials\Special 01 it won't be able to id them correctly

Sure, no problem. I'll make it so the specials folder can be either "Season 0", "Season 00", or "Specials" - or you can manually set it to be anything else you want... and then have the episode names themselves with "S00".

Thanks for the drink! :)

The latest version now has offical, non-broken, specials support.

- Set in the preferences what you want the specials folder to be called, e.g. "Specials", "Season 0", "Season 00", etc. This is used for automatic folder naming (if turned on)
- If you're not using automatic folders for a show, manually add a folder for season 0 to set where the specials go (or if you want them in some other specific location for just one show).
- Episodes on disk will use "0" as the season number, e.g. S00E03, or 0x03. Finding and organising won't find a special unless it's named like that too. (I'll improve this later.)
- If you don't care about the specials for a given show, add "0" to the "Ignore Seasons" list (or tell it "Ignore Always" when it prompts you about the folder).
- All the above doesn't apply if you turn on "Specials count as epsiodes" for a show, since the specials are merged into the seasons.

I've tested it quickly here, and it seems ok, but let me know if you have any problems with it.
