255 + character directory names

Some day you may run into a message unable to delete or rename or whatever some file because the name is over 255. Then when you try to rename it there is a message that the folder is also or it just beeps and will not let you.

First you should run scandisk with the repair option just in case it will require a reboot usualy to do it. Then go to the folder

if the file in the folder also has a long name shorten it first.

look for some folder with a period about 45 chars in and remove the stuff after the period on each folder like it. you may have to add some number like 1 2 3 at the start if the names that are similar.

if you can rename the file but not folder move the files out of it. then it might be able to be deleted.

There is some utils to delete long name folders also and there is a trial version of some desktop commander program that can also.
Good luck.
