i have often wondered why tvrage.com listing site is not used for programs like this. It seems to cover lots of shows some of the other sites miss but is lacking others.
I like the schedule they have to see what is playing this month.

thetvdb does occasionally go offline, but never for too long. Of course, TVRename is going to fairly useless without it up, because all its data comes from there! If it goes down forever, I'll look at moving to some other data source. Until late last year, I used to use tv.com, but then they changed their site layout and broke my HTML scraper. At that point, I discovered thetvdb.com, who provide a nice XML data source. As thetvdb has all the shows I watch, it suits my needs fine.

I've just had a quick look at tvrage.com, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get data out of it (e.g. XML / JSON / etc.). It would probably have to be scraped from the HTML - not an ideal approach, but it can work ok. If someone wants to write and maintain a .NET plugin for TVRename, that does the "get series and episode data from tvrage" (or any other favourite provider), let me know and I'll sort out the necessary interfaces.

In what way is it "not working" when you try to add new series? Is the search coming up blank, is an error message coming up, or what? Without information, I can't help. What show are you trying to add? What are you typing in and/or clicking?

I've just tried adding a new series here, and it works fine. You could try going to the TVRename data folder and removing the "TheTVDB.xml" file, in case it is corrupted. That's a fairly long shot though, as I don't know exactly what is or isn't happening at your end.

To address the lack of show information in thetvdb, you're able to get an account there and add them yourself. :)

I had it act strange on some series also after I started using it. what I noticed was the ones that were not working right if I went to the my "shows tab"

Then picked a show and expanded it to show the seasons
then I would click a season then down at the bottom row of buttons I clicked Open.

This should start windows explorer in that season folder. If it opened in the episode folder then things were messed up.

But about 1/3 of my files were corrupted after installing it and I just clicked each on that opened up wrong then clicked the delete at bottom of screen.

"That delete really needs to be renamed" I feel panicky pressing it like I am deleting my show. possibly call the button unlink_directory.

TVDB been offline to the public now for nearly 2 months the program can still access the site info luckily but its on and off I noticed. This is the message I get from the official site and have for near 2 months..

We have taken the public areas of our
website off-line for a few weeks, so that we
can perform some much-needed maintenance
and improvements to our database, as well as make
some design improvements to our front-end functionailty.

We hope to be back on-line soon.
Thank you very much for your patience.

Members and Staff:
You can continue to log-in here.
Also, all Member and Staff e-mail services
will continue to work while the website is off-line.

Since this has happened they havn't added any new shows that have just come out which is why I am having problems I think I am just finding nothing... and sometimes I get a connection error..

I think you are not going to the website that we are all talking about and that this application uses.

http://www.thetvdb.com/

Works just fine for me. I add data regularly and have never had a problem.

Yeah, it's thetvdb.com.

vhero: Check that tvrename isn't set to be in "Offline" mode, at the top of the options menu. If its turned on, a lot of things stop working without any warnings. (to be improved in a future version).

http://tvrage.com/tools.php

tools http://tvrage.com/tools.php
I have used tv rage for a long while on the forums lots of people program for it. they have a tools page and there are lots of rss lists
you can do php lookups on there database also. They are always adding new features and just expanded it a bunch again. I see a lot of new features now. there site is run by pools of people any one can sign up to be a editor and work their way up and get more responsibility. They are adding lots of trivia and other interesting things now I see.

I think I got the problems figured out with getting things added for the most part. It is caused if i add a show like Green Eggs but my directory name is Green eggs for some reason it will mess up then.
