Help please with renaming

Hello,

From reading this forum, I gather that to use this program for renaming, all episodes must be in their proper show folders for TVRename to find and rename them. Is this correct?
If this is true, what are the search folders for, if not to find newly downloaded/ripped episodes of shows and to move them to the correct show folders?
Along these lines, how do I get TVRename to recognize that a show with an abrreviation or other such naming convention is the show that I want it to be?
For eample:

I have a show named AHP.S01E04.Whatever episode name.

How do I get TVRename to understand that I want any show labeled as above to be Alfred Hitchcock Presents and to be moved to Alfred Hitchcock Presents/Season 1?
Is this possible?
Other apps like TheRenamer and TVRenamer have the ability to do this through the use of aliases or the like, however, they can not move episodes to multiple harddrives. I would just like to use one program for my server automation.

So tell me...is this possible or am I stuck using a different program?

Thanks so much for any info!
Mark

No - TVRename will move the shows to the folder you have specified for that show and rename it. It does this from the "Search Folders" locations. If however you have a file in one of those "Show" folders the program will assume it is for that show and only concentrate on the season/episode part of the filename to determine what episode it is and will then offer to rename it accordingly.

Alias' are on the enhancements list, but do not currently exist in the app. When you add a new show (or any time later in the Show properties) you can configure the "Custom Show Name" you want to use. TVRename will then use that for searching and renaming. In your example, if you setup the custom name of AHP the the file will be identified, moved and renamed, but it will be renamed using AHP as the show name.

I've used a bunch of different renaming tools, but this is the best one for doing as much as possible. If you are a coder then you can jump on board the project and add functionality - I believe they use C#.

Hi ScoopD!

Thanks for jumping in on my question.
Here's my problem.....I have my base shows all named and configured I also have my search folders configured. New episodes I download go into the search folders where theoretically, TVRename will rename it then move it to the correct show folder. However, that is not what happens. If a newly downloaded file in my search folder isn't named exactly like the show folder in my base directory, TVRename will not pick it up or will move it to the wrong directory. The way I am getting around this is to rename it with one of the other renaming applications.
Any idea when the Alias thing will be implemented? I wish I was coder but alas I am at the mercy of others more smarter than myself. ;)

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Unless I'm mistaken the shows you add to your search folders will need to have the same title as you setup in the program ie for the 1955 version of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (73614) you use AHP so your files will need to be called AHP- 01x02.avi

That is how I sort some of my shows. Most of the time I change the titles to thetvdb name.
A great bulk renamer can be found here http://www.den4b.com/ I use it to do lots of things including removing the scene tags.
