TVRename 3 - my two penny worth

First off - TVRename is one of the most useful pieces of software and from my perspective it is only the TV side of things I am interested in however I can see advantages for incorporating other things like movies and music in the future.

I currently have two separate and distinct uses:

Firstly I use TVRename to provide a master list of all the TV series and episodes of each series I own. Since I regularly swap files with a friend of mine; we act as backups for each other's systems - something we have had to use from time to time.

This master list includes all the series I have and that my friend has too. There are quite a few instances where I have series my friend doesn't and vice versa.

The XML files from TVRename are imported into a Microsoft Access database so that I can use that to check what's there, what's missing between our systems. I also get mediainfo details of video files on both systems to see who has the better version based on things like resolution and audio channels (albeit in a very cackhanded way).

I do a bit more but the thing here is that the data TVRename has extracted from thetvdb is essential for this purpose.

I would therefore be keen that whatever storage medium is used for the data that there is either an export facility or the database itself can be read.

My other use if for my day to day renaming and copying etc. At the moment I have to do that on a different PC from the above use because it is not easy to have two different sets of configuration files on the same PC.

It would therefore be useful to have the ability to have multiple TVRename profiles.

In addition there are a few features that I miss in the current incarnation.

The "missing episode" and rename and move feature is very useful and I use it all the time.

One thing you can't do is to do a rename and replace.

For instance if I have an existing avi file of s01e10 of something and I get an mkv version of the same episode, it would be useful to have the option to delete the destination file and replace it with the new one. This could simply be done by either a prompt when the copy is being done or perhaps a setting which says if you find a file in the "local" area, it should replace an existing file in the destination.

When you reach that stage, I would be happy to participate in any testing that you might like done of the next version.
